Dawson Precision has developed the Ice 1911 Magwell system featuring multiple choices of finish and mainspring housing shape as well as an innovative design which eliminates the required gap at the front of the magwell’s bottom.
Dave Dawson at Dawson Precision has created the most innovative 1911 magwell system to date. available in black and brushed aluminum finishes with flat and arched mainspring housings, the Dawson Ice 1911 Magwell is easily installed using supplied tools by novices and experienced shooters alike. In addition, the Dawson Precision 1911 ICE Magwell is available with “Gap” and “No-Gap” replaceable Ice inserts.
“In the past, 1911 magazines were stopped by a tang at the bottom that rested against a relief in the front of the frame,” explained Dave Dawson, Ceo of Dawson Precision. “Hey, it’s worked for 100 years, but that required magwells to be open in front, to allow the mag to seat fully.”
“This made the front of the magwell quite non-forgiving during a speed reload. so we redesigned the whole system. This new insert fills the front gap with a super slick polymer that is “very” forgiving. Now you can have 360 degrees to funnel your 1911 mag into perfect position for consistent, blazing-fast reloads.”

Dawson Precision’s new design “key locks” the 1911 ICe Magwell to the special checkered mainspring housing, both of which are CNC machined to precise tolerances. The shooter’s grip is solid and improved because of the ergonomic design of the magwell itself, resulting in a better hand to magwell contact.
